How we prepare and look after our skin makes all the difference

You can have the best airbrush tan technician and the best product in the world but if the base you are working on isn’t in good condition then it will make a big difference. How you prepare your skin in the lead up to your airbrush tan makes will effect the results of your airbrush tan. Follow our guides in Preparation, Aftercare and Maintaining Your Tan to make your airbrush tan the best yet.

Preparation

IMPORTANT! Exfoliate thoroughly and moisturise the day before your tan is to be applied. This will remove dead skin and provide a new, smooth surface for your tan. Exfoliating helps to promote an even coverage and lengthens the duration of the tan.

  • Shave or wax and moisturise the night before your application NOT ON THE DAY.
  • Remove contact lenses during your session.
  • Remove make-up, moisturiser, perfume and deodorant before your application.
  • It is recommended that you wear loose fitting clothing after your tan has been applied. Our product is completely clear and dries almost immediately but it still requires development time. During the development time avoid wearing long boots, socks or trainers as these can affect the results of the tan on your feet and legs. It is recommended that you wear sandals of flip-flops.

Aftercare

  • Leave your tan for at least 7 hours and overnight if possible before showering or taking a bath. This allows your tan to develop. If using our 3-hour tan be sure to shower in 3 hours as this could make your tan too dark and unnatural.
  • Avoid wearing socks or shoes after your tanning session as sweating can inhibit the development of your tan. Sandals or flip flops are a good choice.
  • Avoid applying moisturisers or deodorants.
  • Avoid wearing tight clothing for at least 5 hours.
  • All swimming, showering, and vigorous exercise must be avoided for at least 5 hours as this can inhibit the development of your tan.
  • Avoid letting your skin come into contact with leather furniture until after your first shower or bath. Sit on a towel or robe.

Maintenance

When you have an Airbrush Tan it only effects the outer most layer of the skin (The Dead Skin Cells – Stratum Corneum) The longer you keep the skin cells intact the longer you will keep you tan, the following are ideas for you to help maintain the outer layer:

  • Use a Moisturising Body Wash rather than a shower gel
  • Moisturise regularly (use oil-free moisturiser). preferably morning and night but definitely after showering.
  • Avoid long hot baths and showers as these speed up exfoliation.
  • Pat your skin dry after a bath or shower. Rubbing your skin may rub off your tan.
  • Avoid swimming pools or sea water as these can reduce your tan.
  • Avoid Shaving and Waxing until you are ready for the tan to come off as these actions will remove the tan.
